Cucumber Grower Alert (August 2007)

This cucumber crop was planted on July 15th under high temperature conditions. Combined with higher E.C. (4.5 mmhos) in the coir bag from the previous crop the demand for water was very high. Roots were not enough to support required water uptake resulting in leaf damage. Leaf cells just collapsed. Growers should make sure that leaching is done before planting new crops and also shade the greenhouse roofs enough to reduce incoming light.
